Recognition of comorbid diabetes and obesity in hospital records of newly diagnosed cancer patients

Obesity has been associated with worse prognosis for certain cancers, although data are conflicting for some types of cancer [1]. Comorbid diabetes mellitus also has been associated with reduced survival among patients with certain common cancers (e.g. breast, colon–rectum and endometrium) [2] but there is potential confounding with obesity (the major risk factor for diabetes).
